News For Our Friends

April 2023:  2023 World Art Day Poster:  Bob was honored to have his black and white image of the 'Dia de los Muertos Girl' featured as a poster for the Carrizozo, NM World Art Day.  He is humbled and very appreciative of the support of the Tularosa Basin Gallery of Photography and the Carrizozo art community for selecting his photograph to represent this once a year World Art Day celebration.

January 2019:  The Cover of  New Mexico Magazine!!  Bob was honored to have his black and white image of the 'Dia de los Muertos Girl' featured on the cover (full-page!) of the February 2019 magazine.  He is humbled and incredibly pleased by the positive feedback he has received from people across the US and Europe expressing an emotional connection to the image and the subject.  Further, Bob's award winning photograph (First Place - Animal Category) of ''Andy the Burro and Matthew' (his adopted human) walking by the Ranchos de Taos Church was featured inside the magazine.

November 19, 2018: The Art Director of New Mexico Magazine notified Bob that he has two images that are Finalists in the Annual New Mexico Magazine Photo Contest.  It is a rare honor to be selected by the judges for inclusion in the magazine; however, it is even more significant to have two images selected.   Bob is definitely humbled by this honor.  His images will appear in the February 2019 issue of New Mexico Magazine that arrives on doorsteps in mid-January 2019.  Further, the images will be on display for the next year at The Tularosa Basin Gallery (Photozozo), the largest photography-only gallery in the State of New Mexico.

October 12, 2016: Bob's photograph of 'Eloisa and Saint Theresa' was selected to be the poster and advertising image  for The Taos News Annual Tradiciones Celebration which honors local citizens for significant and long-term contributions to the community. This large event was held at the beautiful El Monte Resort in Taos and attended by over 300 people. Copies of the photograph adorned each table, while poster-sized photos were seen on the main stage and throughout the venue.

  • Eloisa: Of special significance was that the lady in the photograph, Eloisa Montoya, was able to attend and was heartily welcomed by all. The staff of The Taos News were extraordinarily kind to Eloisa and her grand daughter (Rita Castellanos) and we thank them for that.
  • Another incredible highlight of the evening was the long line of people lining up to have Eloisa give them a blessing. I counted at least fifty people at one point. Even the Publisher of The Taos News (Chris Baker) lined up to have a poster signed by her.
  • Finally, did I mention that Eloisa is just a few weeks short of her 107th birthday. Mary and I have said that this long term relationship with Eloisa and Rita has really been fantastic.  And to think that it all started out when I asked Eloisa if I might photograph her when I saw her at an old New Mexican church.  The National Geo photographers I've spoken with in the past would call this a 'serendipitous moment.'  And I'd agree.

January 15, 2016: Bob's winning images from the Annual New Mexico Magazine Photography Contest will be highlighted at The Tularosa Basin Gallery of Photography in Carrizozo, New Mexico during the First Annual Exhibition of the New Mexico Magazine Photo Contest Winners.

  • The Public Opening for the Exhibition begins on Saturday the 30th of January and continues through Sunday the 31st.  The exhibit continues through March 2016. Please join us during the Public Opening where many of the photographers represented by the gallery will be in attendance.
